Picture Frame Restoration Repair
Peter’s Gallery provides a musuem archival restoration service- restoring the original life in antique frames. We work together with our clients to evaluate and select the best procedure for the frame. Artistic, historical and financial aspects are all considered.
Our Antique frame restoration involves cleaning, re-gluing corners, replacing missing pieces and either touch-up or complete refinishing. Frames are first structurally stabilized and then cleaned, and new ornamentation is cast if necessary to replace missing parts. After surface preparation, we then gild the new parts to match. If the original gilding is beyond repair, the entire frame can be re-gilded and toned. Authentic gold leaf, metal leaf or bronzing powder is used for gilding according to the circumstances and the decisions we make along with the client.
Wooden frames, such as mahogany, walnut, oak and others, are carefully cleaned, corners reglued, scratches and dents repaired and colored to match the original.
